Horiuchi conducts research mainly on the establishment and application of genome editing technology in poultry from research on pluripotent stem cells in chickens, and supervises the laboratory. In addition to this, we have taken over the research conducted by Professor Emeritus Haruo Matsuda and Professor Emeritus Shuichi Furusawa, who retired from Hiroshima University, aiming for effective use of chicken monoclonal antibodies, such as dementia and chronic inflammatory diseases. We are also continuing antibody production research that can be applied to basic research and diagnosis of intractable diseases. The laboratory is very active, with 2 young assistant professors (Dr. Mei Matsuzaki and Dr. Ryo Ezaki), 1 postdoctoral researcher (Dr. Takumi Terada), and 4 late doctoral students (5-year integrated course at the Distinguished Graduate School). Dr. Kennosuke Ichikawa, who was a postdoctoral researcher until last year, will work as a postdoctoral fellow at the Rosslyn Institute in the UK from April.
